The term "Teflon" is already commonly known in many situations. However, what people may not know is just how "Teflon" is a generic brand of polyurethane tape. The name "Teflon" has been around for quite a while now. In fact, it was first used by the United States military during World War II for the use of rubberized cockpit surfaces. But what exactly is Teflon Tape? And why is it important for us to know exactly what Teflon Tape is?
Basically, Teflon tape (or PTfe tape for short) is a generic brand of synthetic thermoplastic that was originally developed for use in commercial applications, specifically as an adhesive to electrical wires. The main purpose of this new adhesive was to make wires easier to stick to, thereby improving their performance when they come into contact with heat and moisture. The latest and greatest benefit to these wires was in its ability to resist chemical corrosion.
